Who We Are

What We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

• Account information: email address, hashed password (or Google OAuth identifier).
• Contact information: phone number (if you opt in to receive SMS messages).
• Address information: street address(es) you provide for sweep schedule matching.
• Billing information: payment details are processed and stored by our payment processor (Stripe); ChicagoSweepAlert does not store any credit card numbers or banking information.
• Usage data: pages visited, feature interactions, and general analytics.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type, device information, and server logs collected automatically for security and reliability.

How We Use Data

We use your data to: deliver street sweeping reminders; allow a third party (Stripe) to process payments; improve the Service; communicate account-related information; and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with service providers (e.g., cloud hosting, SMS/email delivery, payment processing) under contracts that limit their use of your information to providing services on our behalf.

Cookies & Analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to understand how visitors use our site and to improve your experience. Specifically:

• Analytics cookies: We use analytics tools to collect usage data such as pages visited, time on site, and general location (country/region). This helps us understand how our Service is used and identify areas for improvement.
• Essential cookies: These are required for the site to function (e.g., authentication, session management). They cannot be disabled.

We request your consent before setting analytics cookies upon access to the site. You can change your cookie preferences at any time using the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer.

Retention & Deletion

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. After account deletion, we remove personal data within 30 days, except where longer retention is required for legal, billing, or compliance purposes (e.g., consent logs, transaction records). SMS & Email

SMS: By opting in and using the Service, you consent to receive recurring automated text messages. Message frequency varies. Message & data rates may apply. Text STOP to cancel or HELP for help. We do not share, sell, or rent your mobile phone number or any SMS opt-in data with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

Email: Every non-transactional email includes an unsubscribe method. Transactional emails (e.g., password reset, billing receipts) cannot be opted out of while your account is active.

Security

We use industry-standard protections including TLS encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you suspect unauthorized access to your account, please contact us immediately at support@chicagosweepalert.com.

Data Breach Notification

In the event of a data breach that compromises your personal information, we will notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by applicable law, including the Illinois Personal Information Protection Act (815 ILCS 530). Notification will be provided in the most expedient time possible and without unreasonable delay.

Children

Our Service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party service providers for cloud hosting (Google Cloud), SMS delivery (Twilio, Vonage), email delivery (Resend), payment processing (Stripe), and analytics (PostHog). These providers process data on our behalf under contracts that limit their use of your information. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights including:

• Access: Request a copy of your personal data that we maintain.
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.
• Portability: Request your data in a portable format.

California Residents

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA):

Do Not Track

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. There is no industry standard for how to respond to DNT signals. We do not currently respond to DNT signals, but we do provide cookie consent controls that allow you to opt out of non-essential tracking.

International Data Transfers

Our Service is operated in the United States. If you are located outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you by email and by posting the new policy on this page with an updated "Last updated" date at least fourteen (14) days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
